The Fund is governed by a 10-member Board of Trustees. Composition of the board is mandated by Texas law which states that five will be firefighters, two will be City of Houston citizens(elected by firefighter trustees), one will be the city treasurer, one will be a retired firefighter with at least 20 years of Fund participation, and one will be the mayor or his/ her representative.
The Fund Board of Trustees meets every third Thursday of each month at 10:00 a.m. This section contains topics to be covered during the Board of Trustee's monthly meeting.
The Board of Trustees employs a professional staff to help administer the investments and benefits of the Fund. The staff is a group of highly motivated professionals who take great pride in their work. They also find great strength through their diversity of talents and perspectives.
Every quarter, the Fund produces two publications: The Red Line, for retired and beneficiary members and the Smoke Reader, for active members. These publications, which can be seen in this section, include pertinent information that is communicated to the membership. The Legislative newsletters, Annual Members' Report, Comprehensive Annual Financial Report (CAFR) and our latest Summary Plan Description (SPD) are also included in this section.
