Scholarship Applications due July 6, 2009

The Dennis W. Holder Scholarship Fund is currently accepting applications for the 2009 fall semester.  Scholarships are available to the biological and legally adopted children and grandchildren of full-time, active HFD firefighters and retired members currently receiving pension benefits from the Fund. Stepchildren are not eligible unless they have been legally adopted by the firefighter.  The scholarship will be awarded for a maximum of four years.  However, please keep in mind that since the scholarships are not granted automatically, it is the applicant's responsibility to re-submit an application, as well as the requirements, in order to receive the scholarship each year.

All applications, along with requirements, must be submitted in person or via certified mail with return receipt requested to the Dennis W. Holder Scholarship Fund, and received at 4225 Interwood N. Parkway, Houston, Texas 77032-3866 by no later than 4:00 p.m. on Monday, July 6, 2009.  Incomplete and late forms will not be processed.  Eligible applicants will be notified in writing of their awards no later than Friday, August 14, 2009.  The amount of the distribution depends on the number of eligible recipients and will be divided equally among eligible recipients.

Please keep in mind that only sealed OFFICIAL TRANSCRIPTS are acceptable.   ONCE SEAL IS BROKEN, transcripts  become unofficial and WILL NOT BE ACCEPTED.  ALSO, No copies or computer generated transcripts will be accepted.

Dennis Holder Scholarship Fund

The Dennis W. Holder Scholarship Fund is a separate entity from HFRRF. It is a 501 (c ) (3) that provides scholarships for children and grandchildren of Houston Firefighters.

The Dennis W. Holders Scholarship Fund, named after Assistant Fire Chief Dennis Holder, is currently accepting donations.  The scholarship fund will benefit children and grandchildren of City of Houston firefighters who plan to go to college.  It has been set up as a 501(c)(3) in order to receive tax-deductible donations.
